COMPUTERS By: Kevin Williams Pd. 8/9

Introduction  Computers are programmable machines that are able to receive data and then are able to manipulate the data.

Why was the computer invented?  The computer was invented to help people solve basic math calculations. However, over time many different types of computers have been invented for many different purposes. An example of this are handheld computers. Handheld computers are used to hold personal information and are not really used for mathematic calculations. Hand-held computers are known as PDAs, palmtops and pocket computers.

Who invented the Computer? This question cannot be answered so easily. The reason for this is because there have been so many different types of computers invented by different people. However, Charles Baddage created the first mechanical computer in This computer is known as the grandfather of all modern computers. The computer he created was called the “Difference and Analytical Engines.”

How has it advance overtime  The computer has had many changes overtime. The computer at first was very basic and did very basic things. However with time the computer became more advance and its functions also became more advance too. In the world today we can do things that were thought impossible in the past with the help of computers. Computers now help us with work, school, and even in the medical field which was impossible with the older versions.

Computers Past & Present Past Computer Modern Computer

Timeline  In 60 A.D. Hero of Alexandria created machines that followed a series of instructions.  Charles Baddage invents the first mechanical computer.

How do Computers affect Society  Computers affect society in many ways. Many people use and depend on computers. Computers help people live when people lives are at stake. Computers also help plan our daily lives. The entire human race depends on computers because with them we expand our knowledge; without computers progress of the human race would be stopped dead in it’s track.

MYP Area of Interaction: Health and social education  Computers unfortunately have a negative effect on people. People spend most days on the computer and stay on them for hours and hours. Spending all those hours on the computer is dangerous to one’s health ; it could damage a persons eyes or it may even start damaging a persons mind. We should spend only about two hours on the computer a day prevent any serious health risks 9 9
