If you do not understand a part of the lab the first thing you should do is REREAD the procedure. If you are still unsure then you should ask the teacher.

IMPORTANT!! Conduct yourself in a responsible manner at all times. There is NO horseplay in the lab. Wear goggles and tie back hair when using heat, glassware, or chemicals.

Heat and flames: Never reach over a flame! Never look into test tubes or beakers when heating substances in them Don't point test tubes at other people! Never heat a closed container.

Cutting: Smelling: Always cut away from your hand. Do not smell chemicals directly, always waft the fumes toward yourself.

Electrical: Never use them around water Don't use them if they are broken, or not working Be sure electrical cords are not hanging down where someone can trip on them.

Report accidents! Report ANY accident or injury to the teacher IMMEDIATELY. If you spill chemicals, JUMP BACK and report this to the teacher immediately, do not try to clean it up yourself.

Be safe: If someone gets chemicals in their eyes, walk them to the eyewash and call for the teacher. If the teacher is unable to respond or gets hurt, use the office call button.

Chemical disposal Always dispose of chemicals exactly the way your teacher instructs you to. Never return unused chemicals to the original containers, the chemical may be contaminated with other chemicals from the beaker.

Broken glass Never try to clean up broken glass, the teacher will do this! If you cut yourself on broken glass, tell the teacher, even if the cut is tiny! Report all accidents to the teacher.

Allergies If you are allergic to animals, chemicals, or substances in the lab... You need to tell the teacher!!!

After the lab... Always clean up your lab area and then... Wash your hands.
