CSI Lab Lab Safety

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI): Observations and Inferences On your handout… Record as many OBSERVATIONS about the scene as possible. Remember, OBSERVATIONS must be FACTUAL.

Inferences On the back of your paper. Answer questions 2 and 3. REMEMBER: An inference is a prediction based on your observations.

Safety At your lab tables you will find a lab scenario in the envelop. Directions: 1.Have 1 group member read the scenario to the class. 2.On the back of your CSI handout, each student should design their own cartoon of what happened. 3.Under the cartoon, write a brief description of what the characters in the story should have done to be safe in the Science lab. 4.After all the groups are done, you show your cartoon and description to two other students with different scenarios.

Scenario #1  Morgan and Meghan are working with beakers and test tubes. When moving the test tube into the beaker with tongs, the test tube shatters on the floor. What should they do?

Scenario #2  Michael and Ben are mixing chemicals and some of the chemicals splash into Ben’s eyes. What should they do?

Scenario #3  Madison is working with an open flame and catches her hair on fire!!! What should her classmates and teacher do?
