Goals for Third Grade To develop the academic and social skills needed to progress to fourth grade. Be an active learner in a supportive and fun classroom environment. Make new friends and discover new interests.
Class Subjects The subjects we cover during third grade are: Spalding English & Language Arts in line with Common Core Standards Writing & Oral Recitations Saxon Math & Common Core Standards Science Social Studies
Spalding Cursive writing is expected in third grade We will practice for the first few weeks of the year; after that, everything is to be written in cursive. We will enter 30 words in our Spalding notebook each week. We will test on these 30 words the following Thursday.

Writing & Oral Recitations ELA Common Core Standards using 6+1 Traits AIMS Preparation 2 Poetry Recitations each quarter
Math Saxon 4/5 Math Book & Common Core Standards Practice Tests, Final Tests, & Investigations Timed fact tests 100 problems, 3:30 secs.

Classroom Community Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. Our class rules are: Be respectful and responsible. Be an attentive listener. Grade Level expectations are: Be organized and follow directions. Be prepared.
Homework Homework will be assigned every night, Monday thru Thursday. Spelling Math Lesson One of the following skills: Grammar/Reading Comprehension/Writing Reading for 20 minutes Your homework packet is due the following morning. Incomplete homework has a consequence and can affect the overall homework grade.
Tardiness School starts at 8:10 A.M. We set the stage for our day as soon as we arrive, please be here on time! The first bell rings at 8:05; if you aren’t in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, please make sure you sign in at the school office and get a tardy pass before coming to class.
