Bill of Rights United States of America

What is a right? A right is the freedom to act without the permission of others. Protects the people from the powerful government. You may exercise your rights as long as you do not violate the same rights of another

What is an amendment? A change to the Constitution. These are intended to protect the rights of the citizens.

What are the Bill of Rights? They are the first ten amendments to the Constitution. They protect the rights and freedoms of American citizens.

Why were the Bill of Rights needed? Many states would not ratify (accept) the Constitution. (Govt. was too powerful) Many states would only accept it if it included the Bill of Rights that protected American citizens.
