Extension: Draw and label a diagram showing these parts. Success Criteria: A* - Explain in depth how flowers link to their function. A – Explain how the parts of the flower are adapted to their function. B – Describe the function of each part of the flower. C – State the names of each part of a flower.

Label your diagram on your worksheet Carpel female parts Stigma Petals Stamen male parts Style Anther Ovary Filament SQA-List the functions of the parts of flowers i.e. sepal, petal, stamen, anther, stigma, ovary, nectary Ovules Nectaries Sepals Label your diagram on your worksheet

What do the parts do? Sepals- protect the flower when it is a bud Stamen- anther produces male sex cells (pollen) Carpel- stigma traps pollen Style is where pollen tube grows down to female sex cells. Petals- colourful to attract the insects Botanical gardens booklet 1- flowers and pollination (blue) Nectaries- give out sugary liquid to attract insects Add these notes into your table on your worksheet Carpel- ovary produces female sex cells (ovules)

Tasks for todays lesson Make sure the first page of your ‘Parts of a Flower’ worksheet is complete Working in pairs -complete the flower dissection -everyone MUST fill in the second page of their OWN worksheet Collect your Seed Germination Group Investigation results 4. Complete your poster (it must be ready to be handed in for assessment at the BEGINNING of NEXT lesson)
