What role should consumerism play in our economy?

Introduction Laws exist to help protect our health and safety as consumers. Can you think of examples where the provincial and federal governments intervened to support our health and safety?

Did you think of: Banning cellphones while driving. Provinces banning tobacco “power walls”. In 2008, Alberta government passed legislation stating that as of January 2010, homeowners can not use pesticides on their lawns.

What about your personal food choices as a consumer? When governments make decisions, is this showing concern for your overall health or is it showing excessive control?
