PowerPoint 2: Mush-Up a meal!

Starter Activity For homework you were to find some suitable everyday meals which you could Mush-Up. In pairs, share: Which meals did you find for homework? Which type of mushroom might you include in your Mush-Up meal? 2

What will I learn today? Learn to use the 4x4 design strategy to develop creative ideas for preparing and cooking with mushrooms. Apply your knowledge of nutritional values of mushrooms and other ingredients and their role in healthy eating. Learn how to write a recipe to plan how to make your Mush-Up meal with a partner. 3

Task 1: 4x4 Design Strategy Now you have discussed some suitable meals which you could Mush-Up, you should use the 4x4 design activity to help each other improve your ideas. How to do it: 1.Everybody sketches and annotates their favourite Mush-Up idea on their 4x4 Activity Sheet, in the top left-hand space. 2.Remember to explain which ingredients you will use, and how they contribute to healthy eating. 3.After four minutes swap sheets; pass your 4x4 Activity Sheet to the person next to you. 4

Task 1: 4x4 Design Strategy How to do it: continued 4.Look at the idea you now have in front of you, and think about how you would change it to make it better. Draw your improved idea in the top right-hand space, and explain with annotations how you have changed it and why it is better. 5.Repeat this process until three students have helped you to complete the 4x4 Activity Sheet with improved versions of your idea. 6.In pairs, choose which idea you would like to make and write a short sentence explaining why. 5

Task 1: 4x4 Example of activity 6 Draw meal here

Task 2: Planning your recipe 7 In your pairs discuss how to make your recipe, then complete the table. This column is for: Health and safety issues Quality control issues Food Hygiene issues This column is for: Writing step by step what you need to do.

What have I learnt today? Did I find the 4x4 design strategy useful to develop ideas for a Mush-Up dish for the competition? Was I able to identify the nutritional value of mushrooms and other key ingredients in my Mush-Up ideas? Did I write a recipe with a partner, which will be easy to follow, in the next practical lesson? 8

9 Do I know what to do for homework? Do I know which ingredients to bring in for the next lesson? Have I got a suitable container at home? Do I know when the cooking lesson will take place? Do I know who my partner is, and what my responsibilities will be?
