1 Corinthians 15:55-57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 55 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 2:11 For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him. 11 This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him.

Killing Our Old Man of Sin

Initially… Our old man was crucified with Him – Rom. 6:1-11 Paul reminds Christians of their baptism… It is an entrance into Christ – Gal. 3:26-27 It is a washing away of our sins – Acts 22:16 It is for the remission of sins – Acts 2:38 It sanctifies us – Eph. 5:26 It is at the point of baptism that our old man of sin is declared dead and buried – Col. 2:11-13 How often do you think of the beginning of your fight against sin?

Constantly… That you put off … the old man – Eph. 4:17-32 (Col. 3:1-11) This is a continuous process – put off, be renewed in our minds, put on It is lifelong commitment to being transformed to His image – cf. Rom. 12:1-2 Satan will try to raise that old man of sin, but we must resist and fight – cf. 1 Pet. 5:9 Is there a marked difference between your old man and your new man? Is there a different heart, soul, mind and purpose in your life?

Finally… Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God … but we shall all be changed – 1 Cor. 15:35-57 Our corruptible bodies must put on incorruption Our mortal bodies will be changed and we will put on immortality Do you long for the day when sin will no longer have dominion over you? Do you anticipate that day when struggle against sin will end and the victory will finally be yours? Until then… do you remain steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord? – vs. 58

Matthew 7:3-5 First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Galatians 2:20 it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
