Presentation transcript:

Key steps in conducting survey research Decide if a survey is the best design to use Short time, economical, dispersed population, anonymity Report what people think rather than what they do, low response rate, do not control for many variables, no flexibility in responding to questions Identify the research questions or hypotheses Describe the caracteristics or trends of a population (frequency) Compare groups in terms of specific attribute Relate two or more variable

Key steps in conducting survey research Identify the population, the sempling frame and the sample The Population is the group of individuals having one characteristic that distinguisches them from other groups. The sampling frame is the list of units from which the sample is selected. The sample is the group of participants. Determine the survey design and data-collection procedures Cross sectional or Longitudinal study Questionnaire or interviews

Develop or locate an instrument Administer the Instrument Reliability and validity Seeking and obteining permission Obtain an high response rate Prepare data for analysis Key steps in conducting survey research

Analyze the data to address the research questions or hypotheses Descriptive and inferential statistics Key steps in conducting survey research Write the report and evaluate survey research Methods and Discussion The cecklist
