WHERE IS TEXAS? Texas is in the United States. It is the second biggest state in the USA. It shares a border with Mexico. The capital city is Austin. 26 million people live there.

TEXAS FLAG The flag has one star. Texas is sometimes called the Lone Star State. In 1839, the Lone Star Flag became the states official flag.

COWBOY A cowboy is a person who takes care of animals and can usually be seen riding a horse. He does jobs that are dangerous and loves adventure. He lives on a ranch. He can also be your best friend… if he likes you.

WHAT DOES A COWBOY WEAR AND USE? Cowboy/girl hat: The large rim protects him from the sun and cools him down. Lasso: Its a string of rope that cowboys use to catch cattle.

WHAT DOES A COWBOY WEAR AND USE? Cowboy boots: They wear these because the boots make it easy to get on and off a horse. Saddle: its placed on the horses back and is what the cowboy sits on when he rides. Bandana: this protects the cowboys face from the sun, wind, and dust.

SPORTS American football is the most popular sport in Texas. People watch football every Sunday with their friends. Baseball is also very popular. Its considered the USs national sport.

DALLAS COWBOYS The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most famous football teams in the world. And their cheerleaders are also very famous too!

WE HAVE RIVALRIES TOO! Just as Real Madrid and Barça are rival football teams, Texas has its own rival baseball teams. The Rangers from Dallas and the Astros from Houston are arch rivals!

NASCAR NASCAR is a sport where cars race each other around a track and the person who finishes in first place is the winner.

TEXAS GEOGRAPHY Texas has a wide variety of landscapes, including coastal, mountain, planes, and desert.

MORE GEOGRAPHY Guadalupe Peak is the highest point in Texas. It is 2,667m high. The Rio Grande is the longest river in Texas. It is 3,051km long, and about 1920km of that is in Texas. It lies along the border with Mexico.

IMPORTANT CITIES IN TEXAS Houston is the largest city in Texas (and 4th largest in the U.S.). It has over 2 million people. Austin is the capital of Texas, but it is only the 4th largest city in the state. About 790,000 people live there.

ECONOMY Texas is a very important part of the U.S. economy. It is the second wealthiest state in the country. Important sectors of the Texas economy include agriculture and mining, energy, technology, and commerce.
