TSG-S Feature Definition for Wireless Local Loop Rick L. Willis CDG WLL Technical Team CDMA Development Group

CDMA Development Group What is the Wireless Local Loop feature? Local Loop provided wirelessly Alternative to the exclusively wired local loop Flexible & rapid deployment option in contrast to the purely wired local loop Comprised of fewer maintenance points Not limited to a single network topography Supported by numerous wireless devices WLL supports Mobility option Supports co-existence of numerous vertical features Wireless Switch Base Station E1/T1

CDMA Development Group What is Local Loop? Subscriber dial tone BORSCHT functionality Battery feed suppling dc to the local loop Overvoltage protection to limit or isolate foreign voltages on the local loop Ringing voltage to the local loop & includes answer detection Signaling of hook status (on-hook & off-hook) (defined in IS-2000-A) Coding conversion of analog to digital and digital to analog via the codec Hybrid conversion of the 2-wire bi- directional local loop to a 4-wire path with separate, unidirectional transmit & receive circuits. Performs impedance matching of the local loop to provide echo cancellation Test access & test of the local loop Wire Line Switch RJ-11

CDMA Development Group Network Topography Options E1/T1 Wireless Switch Gateway Digital Loop Carrier (V5.2 or TR303) Base Station Base Station Access Controller Traditional Trunk Options (ANSI/CCITT ISUP, R1/R2 MF, etc) E1/T1 Local End Office Network Feature Server Wireless Switch Base Station E1/T1 FR/ATM/IP
