Preparing for UCAS fairs

UCAS Fairs Nationwide HE fairs Representatives from all universities 1000’s of students attend each day Also have stands for the Army, Gap Years, Connexions, RAF Lots of relevant course information and literature Often offer a range of seminars on HE related topics Questions, questions, questions!

What will it look like? Universities will be placed in alphabetical order Some fairs will be spread over several rooms, make sure you visit them all Try and plan your route in advance, work out which stands you want to visit Don’t walk around in large groups, visit the stands that interest you

What to ask… …about your course How is it related to your current subjects? What are the entry requirements? How is it assessed? Are there placement or exchange opportunities? Do they interview? How competitive is it? How can you get the edge? What kind of facilities are in place? Progression routes?

What to ask… … about the university lifestyle When are the open days? Do they provide/ guarantee first year students accommodation? What scholarships and bursaries are on offer? Where is the university located? What city attractions are there? What are the transport links like? Does the university have a good range of clubs and societies?

Top Tips Research course ideas first Consult and complete the relevant sections of the convention guide before you arrive Ask questions (universities don’t bite!) Plan your route and time carefully Attend seminars if they are offered to you Pick up all the relevant literature and information Make notes on what universities say Take a strong empty bag!!!
