Iranian National Broadband Seismic Network BI in FDSN

Guralp System CMG-3 Seismometers (120s) High performance, low noise, compact, broadband seismometers The Guralp Systems CMG-3 range of compact three component broadband. Data Format: GCF SEED Unfortunately, There is no sharing of data with other networks or with international or regional data centers

History: Seismic Network of International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology started its activities in 1999 using 4 seismic stations in Zahedan, Ashtian, Tehran and Nain. Devices available in these stations are broadband type. The transmission of data to central station is performed in real time using satellite communication system. Broadband seismic network has been planned at the early stages with 48 stations, however, it is intended to increase the number of broadband stations to 67. To the end of September 2010, 24 seismic stations were active and the information is transmitted by satellite having bandwidth of 512 KB per second to IIEES continuously and online.

Iranian National Broadband Seismic Network Stations

The main goals of establishment broadband seismic networks of IIEES can be stated as follows: To record seismic events (natural and manmade) accurately in Iran and the region; Evaluation the exact specification of earthquakes (location, time, magnitude, depth, etc.) and providing and distributing the information through the website, email and SMS; Processing seismic events data in order to be applicable for researchers to run applied scientific researches;

Broadband seismic network capabilities after installing 63 seismic stations will be the followings: Calculating parameters of the earthquakes (greater than 2.0 in magnitude) in maximum 10 minutes after the occurrence with difference in location of maximum 5 km; Determining the specification of earthquakes with magnitude more than 3 in maximum 5 minutes after the event; Increasing accuracy of determination of seismic events location in neighboring countries.

Moreover by starting activities of all stations, the network can provide following information: Recording, processing and calculation of the parameters of seismic events (local and regional) with the desired accuracy and quality; Determining the geometry parameters of small and big earthquakes and causative faults in the affected area; Assessing changes in stress parameters calculated in the related fields; Evaluation of anisotropy of shear and longitudinal waves in mantle and crust of the plateau; Recording pre and aftershocks of large and medium earthquakes; Estimation of the damaged area around the earthquake epicenter; calculation and providing shake maps in 1 hour after the event;
