Replication Tools for OpenServer and UnixWare SCO Professional Services

Agenda  Introduction  Overview  Delivery Methodology  Features and Benefits  Availability  Replication Tool Requirements  Replication Process  Demo of MIT for OpenServer 6  Glossary  SCO Services Capabilities  OpenServer 6 Implementation Services  Why SCO Services  Q&A

OpenServer and UnixWare Replication Tools  Mass Installation Toolkit (MIT) – OpenServer  UnixWare Replication Kit (URK) – UnixWare 7

Overview  Professional Services solution template for custom replication and deployment of complete systems  Template customized for each customer situation  Deployed as a PS consulting engagement  Toolkit onsite training included  Renewable License

Overview OPERATING SYSTEM DEVICE DRIVERS APPLICATIONS SYSTEM CONFIGURATION DATA Prototype System Configuration

Overview Target Image Distribution

Overview Target System Deployment

Delivery Methodology Professional Services Engagement – Phase 1  Comprehensive assessment of your computer system needs:  Hardware requirements  File system layout  3 rd party applications  Device drivers

Delivery Methodology (continued) Professional Services Engagement - Phase 2  Create initial gold master  3 days onsite consulting  SCO engineer as extension of your IT team  Train customer personnel Phase 3 – Ongoing Support and Maintenance  Renewable license  Technical Support Options

Replication Tool Features  Installation images will handle target systems with different hard drive sizes  Non-UNIX partitions can also be replicated using byte per byte copying  Non-active UNIX partitions can be copied  Can be customized on a per target system basis

Replication Tool Benefits  Efficient, cost effective methodology for rolling out multiple similarly configured systems  Reduces deployment time  Minimal user interaction when deploying target systems

Availability Available for:  SCO OpenServer and  SCO UnixWare and MIT for SCO OpenServer 6 in beta  October 2005 FCS

Replication Tool Requirements  Prototype and target systems should be certified and listed on the SCO Compatible Hardware Web Page (CHWP)  CD-RW or DVD-RW drive on prototype unless creating images for distribution across network or disk to disk

Prototype System Requirements Prototype and target machines must be identical in the following areas:  Network card, drivers  Mouse drivers  Number of hard disks  SCSI BIOS settings 30 MB free disk space for replication software At least 2GB free disk space for images

Target System Requirements  Disk drive size on target systems must be ≥ to prototype system

Replication Process  Install and configure OS on prototype  Configure hardware, peripherals  Install applications  Configure users  Configure printers  System tuning  Install replication software

Replication Process  /usr/bin/urk/urkcutproto

/usr/bin/urk/urkcutproto  Autosize of one slice (usually root)  Keyboard Type  Use Replicated System Data File (RSDF)  RSDF location  HBA driver selection  Node name or TCP address as key for RSDF  Difference list

/usr/bin/urk/urkcutproto (continued)  Installation Type?  Network server  CD/DVD drive  Hard drive  Path for images to be stored  Maximum archive size  Number of hard drives  Boot sector option  Bad track scanning  Autosize slice selection  Debug mode on target  Root password prompt

ifile  Contains global information used to configure target machines such as:  Localization  Licensing  System name  User profile  Root profile  Security  Disk Options  RSDF overrides ifile

Replicated System Data File (RSDF)  Fully customizable data file that assists in the installation of multiple target systems  Node name  License Information  Networking Information  Time zone

Sample RSDF File grumpy: TCP_IPADDRS[0]=“ LICENSE_NUMBERS[0]=“zoo000124” LICENSE_CODES[0]=“frziempq” LICENSE_DATA[0]=“fsdfasfd;10ddsd;ccf” dopey: TCP_IPADDRS[0]=“ LICENSE_NUMBERS[0]=“foo397124” LICENSE_CODES[0]=“ptcmiwed” LICENSE_DATA[0]=“uxwjkaxz;05msoe;mgp”

Creating CD/DVD Distribution Disks  Ensure that cdrecord software is working  cdrecord -scanbus  Run the urkcutcdrom command to create cd images  Use newly created media to install on target systems

Demonstration of MIT for OpenServer 6

Glossary  ifile – data file used to store installation parameters  Installation master – media containing the target installation media  Prototype image – copy of software and data files installed on the prototype created by MIT for installation on target systems  Prototype machine – Server whose software is duplicated by MIT and is installed on target systems  Replicated System Data File (RSDF) – A stanza-based data file containing individual configuration for multiple target machines.

Glossary  Target machine – a machine on which MIT installs the software duplicated from the prototype machine  Replication Kit Distribution – media containing the replication kit software  urkcutcdrom – command to create distribution images on cdrom or dvd

SCO Services Capabilities  Global reach  24x7 Follow the Sun  Award winning capability  High level expertise  “One stop shop” for professional services, consulting and support

Why SCO Services  Most experienced Engineers in the industry with Average Tenure of 14 years  Extension of partner’s own services organization  “Sell through” SCO 30% margin: Option for partner to maintain control of end user relationship
