 Good Morning Today we are going to begin learning about helping verbs and begin lesson 6 in our vocabulary unit (red vcr book)then continue with Unit 2 Introduction workshops

 Helping Verbs:  A helping verb always stands in front of a main verb.  For example, in the sentence Shyla can ride her sister's bicycle, the helping verb is can and the main verb is ride.  cVN5yI cVN5yI

 VCR- Lesson 6 Connecting:  The root soci in social means “ being part of a group.” The root mem as in memory means “remembering.”  Complete the activity on page 26- Using Root Clues in your notebook with a partner you have 3 minutes.

 Antisocial  Adjective.  1. Unfriendly; not enjoying the company of others.  2. Harmful or hostile to the society of other people.

 Association  Noun.  1. A club, society, or organization of people with similar interests.  2. Connection, freiendship

 Dissociation  Verb. To break the ties between, separate from, stop associating with.

 Society  Noun.  1. People, human beings living and working as a group or a community.  2. A club, association, or organization of people with similar interests.

 Sociologist  noun. A scientist who works in the area of sociology, which examines the relationships, values, and institutions of communities of people.

 Commemorate  Verb. To honor the memory of.

 Memento  Noun. An object that reminds one of a special time or place.

 Memorandum  Noun. A written or typed note to help one remember.

 Memorial  Noun. A monument or statue built in memory of a person or an event.

 Good Morning  Today we are going to review our vocabulary terms this week by completing the practice exercises on pages 29-30

 Then diagram the following sentences as review of helping verbs:  Reminder diagramming codes: S.p.n.= subject pronoun H.p.= helping verb. Also remember helping verbs go on the same line as the main verb (or action verb) because the helping verb helps to make the main verb more precise(clear).  1. She will leave.  2. They are walking.  3. We shall sing.  4. I could read.  5. They might run.

Day 5- December 12 th Entry # 26 Good Morning, Today for warm up you need to write down all the helping verbs listed on the side wall then use these to create 5 review sentences and diagram them. After diagramming we will review your VCR lesson-6 answers then go over Eleven and complete Jeremiah's song.

Day 7- January 8 th Entry # 28- Block 2 ONLY Partner Testing Activity: Pair up with a person sitting next to you and complete the review worksheet by underlining the pronouns that tell you what point of view the sentence is written in. You will have 15 minutes. Once your done please create 6 study questions with your partner and answers that you will ask another group to answer for review. You are only allowed two What is type of questions.

Happy New Year! Day 8- January 9 th Entry # 29- Class Review of terms: Clarify- To stop and make sure you clearly explain what is going on. Monitor- Check your understanding. Imagery- Words that authors use to create a picture of something as you read. Dialect- Characters speak in a way that is common to a particular region and community.

Dialogue: A conversation between two or more characters. Characterization: is the development of a character in a story. Authors often use different character traits or descriptions of the characters personality: For example: Sarah is normally sarcastic but today she seems full of optimism.

Pronoun: A word that takes place of a noun: HE She They Them Predict: to make a guess or a inference( an educated guess). Narrator: Character telling the story. Or the story teller Point of View : Perspective the story is told from.

Happy New Year! Day 8- January 9 th Entry # 29- First Person Point of View: Perspective of the story told from a character who is in the story. From this perspective the reader only knows the thoughts and feelings of the character telling the story. From this narrative perspective the pronouns : I, me, my are used. Second Person Point of View: Perspective of the story is told from a person who is not fully in the story. Also used to give instructions or descriptions. Most commonly used in How to books, not usually mentioned. Third Person Point of View Omniscient: Perspective of the story is told from a character who is not in the story but has knowledge of all characters thoughts and feelings.
