Travel Writing Aims: To understand the purpose and features of travel writing

Starter Write a brief account of a memorable event that happened on holiday.

Travel Writing techniques: Gives a personal account, First person narrative Has a strong sense of the writer’s personality Uses humour Uses personal experiences and anecdotes (stories from experience) Can be reflective about the destination or the situation the writer finds himself in Can use dialogue to add realism Uses exaggeration for comic effect Can be colloquial (chatty style- like the writer is having a conversation with the reader) Uses facts about the place described Can give a strong opinion (can be critical or sarcastic) Paints a vivid picture in the readers’ mind (can use similes, strong adjectives etc)
