Trees for Life  Trees for Life  Imagine if there were no trees in New York City. Imagine! Where would you go to sit in the shade? Where would you have a picnic in the park if there wasn’t a pretty tree to lay your blanket under? And how warm would it be, especially in the summer, if there were no trees to provide a breeze? What would you look at when walking down any street? Only the buildings? How could the autumn season come and go without a single leaf falling on the ground?  Trees provide so many natural resources. Knowing this, it upsets me when I see trees being cut down or discover a stump in a sidewalk planter where a tree used to stand. When I see trees disappearing, I think of Dr. Seuss’ book The Lorax (and the movie I saw based on the story). It didn’t matter that the Lorax understands the many benefits of trees and tries many times to stand up for their rights - the Once-ler is much more powerful and keeps on cutting trees down to help his business.  I understand that trees need to be healthy and taken care of the right way. Living in New York City with all the traffic and noise must be hard for them. It makes me happy to see people planting small gardens around them and taking good care of them. But, sometimes a tree can’t be saved and it needs to be cut down before it falls on its own and possibly hurts a person or some property. In cases like this, I always hope that the City will replace the old tree with a new one as soon as they can.  I think it’s important that we all respect trees and everything they do for us. I hope the photos I have show how trees make New York City a much nicer place to live, and what is missing when they’re not in the picture. 

The Normal Stump It upsets me when I see trees being cut down or discover a stump in a sidewalk planter where a tree used to stand. The Normal Stump

Tree and Friends Hurt I understand that trees need to be healthy and taken care of the right way. Living in New York City with all the traffic and noise must be hard for them. 3 trees badly hurt in the city

Tree down to the ground Sometimes a tree can’t be saved and it needs to be cut down before it falls on its own and possibly hurts a person or some property. In cases like this, I always hope that the City will replace the old tree with a new one as soon as they can. Tree down the ground

R.I.P a great oak RIP a great oak I always hope that the City will replace the old tree with a new one as soon as they can.

The Sad, Dirty, Treeless Dirt Sometimes a tree can’t be saved and it needs to be cut down before it falls on its own and possibly hurts a person or some property. In cases like this, I always hope that the City will replace the old tree with a new one as soon as they can. This dirt is treeless, so the city might want it to go, but is easier just to plant a tree there

Grain of Hope for the Future Hopefully the city will replant and the trees will still survive

I think it’s important that we all respect trees and everything they do for us. I hope the photos I have show how trees make New York City a much nicer place to live, and what is missing when they’re not in the picture
