EXCEL A new way of thinking

Purpose of Mandatory Remediation 1. Create remediation for students earning a grade of “F” in one or more core classes, without losing instructional time. 2. Create a reward system 3. Create an alternative discipline plan 4. Reduction in zeroes

Key Points NO INSTRUCTIONAL TIME HAS BEEN LOST!! NO INSTRUCTIONAL TIME HAS BEEN LOST!! In a regular school schedule, students who attend a class for 53 minutes a day will spend a total of 265 minutes in each class over the course of the week. With our proposition, students will also spend a total of 265 minutes in each class over the course of the week. In a regular school schedule, students who attend a class for 53 minutes a day will spend a total of 265 minutes in each class over the course of the week. With our proposition, students will also spend a total of 265 minutes in each class over the course of the week.

So How Did We Do It? 1. Decrease time between classes from 5 minutes to 3 minutes on most class changes. Yes….it can be done. We’ve timed it. 2. Bank minutes to be used on Tues, Thurs and Fri.

Goals Decrease in number of suspensions for minor infractions. (Keep the students in the classroom) Decrease in number of suspensions for minor infractions. (Keep the students in the classroom) Decrease in the number of F’s. Decrease in the number of F’s.

The Plan Students earning an unsatisfactory grade in a core subject will spend at least 30 minutes a week in remediation. Once the grade is satisfactory, the student is able to participate in the enrichment period during EXCEL.
