When you download FEAR you should be able to load it pretty quickly, so if it’s taking long consider the problems. Otherwise this is how you should know that FEAR has been downloaded and is running properly for you. When the game is loaded the main menu screen should appear as follows:

Once you’re at the main menu you can do 2 main things: Go play or go to your options. Since you’re just starting out it’s essential we edit your settings before playing first so you’re playing time is worth it. The main setting that all players should have is a low performance to minimize lag. The lower your settings are for graphics the less lag you will get. Try to do the following steps to start your game off well:  Go to Performance and wait for it to detect your system performance. Set BOTH your Computer and Graphics card to Low. Click Ok and then you should be back at the options menu. Now only one more thing to do.  Go to Controls and then Mouse. Set mouse sensitivity to about 75% of the bar and mouse smoothing to 100% of the bar. This should improve your control in game. Options Menu

Now head back to the main menu where you started. Click multiplayer and then you should see the following: Once you’re at the page above go to client settings. At client settings you can personalize your player in game. Make sure you spend some time filling out the Client Settings. Right about now you might be wondering “where are the servers?” Never FEAR the servers are HERE just click Find Servers and wait for about 15 seconds for the server list (normally around 450 servers) to load. You may see servers right away but that most certainly doesn't mean that’s all of them. Once you’ve waited for about 15 seconds you can choose what server you wanna join. Notice the tabs at the top which can help you sort your server findings.

At this time you might be wondering “what server do I join?” I would recommend first that you sort your list by the Play… tab so you can see servers with not too many and not too little players. You should see 5 mini tabs on the left of the Server tab. Before you join any server ALWAYS make sure there’s nothing in each of these tabs, accept for the second little tab that either has an H, W, or L. So try to join only the servers with H, W, or L in the second box, no others. Once you’ve found a good server (may take a while sometimes) go ahead and join it. There is normally a screen popping up when you join a server that has FEAR in huge letters. After about 30 seconds this screen will move to the next screen; which is the loading screen. After it’s loaded your in the game at last. Congratz it wasn’t that hard to start FEAR was it? Well, now’s when the real fun comes in.

Now that you’re able to join servers it’s time you learned to play the game. Here are the most important controls (note that these aren’t all of them): Left mouse button=Fire weapon Right mouse button=Melee (or unarmed attack if you have a gun) Use AWSD on the keyboard to move and press the space bar to jump Use R to reload G for grenade Use Q and E to look either way (specifically around corners) Use SHIFT to zoom in Press Z to use a medpack (should give you +50 health) Use V to navigate through your team radio (commands and requests) Press T to start talking

If you haven’t played a FPS for the PC or even if you have the controls will seem tough at first but this I can’t help. I just can say stick with it because soon enough you’ll come to love those controls. If you still want to know more controls you can view them in game (or out of game) at the Options section and then Controls. I would recommend keeping the controls that are already set for FEAR, and trying to learn those. Once your good then you can change them. From this point on you should be fine if you remember this guide and refer back to it. I would highly recommend that you view my other strategy guides that will help you to improve while your learning your controls so you’ll be ahead of the game. Trick question because it wasn’t on there. Press C to crouch.
