W HAT DOES INTERCEPT MEAN ? In football: The path of the defender crosses the path of the thrown football. In math: What are the x- and y-intercepts?

W HAT ARE THE X - AND Y - INTERCEPTS ? The x-intercept is where the graph crosses the x-axis. The y-coordinate is always 0. The y-intercept is where the graph crosses the y-axis. The x-coordinate is always 0.

F INDING I NTERCEPTS To find the x-intercept, substitute in 0 for y and solve for x 2x+y=6 To find the y-intercept, substitute in 0 for x and solve for y 2x+y=6
