Curriculum Parent supportParent support –Maths, reading and writing targets –Learning Boxes –Skills continued to be a focus at home Our Curriculum and TopicsOur Curriculum and Topics SATsSATs Shared Learning at HomeShared Learning at Home –Policy – when, where and how?! Work at home really should develop learning and not just assess it, so we deliberately set activities where working/discussing it together is of benefit. A guide to what the children should expect is: Maths in real life (with science) is given on a Monday to be discussed that Wednesday. A Big Talk activity is given every Tuesday to be discussed on Thursday. Spellings to learn or a word based investigation set on a Thursday to be discussed on the following Monday. A French/RE/research or reading task is set on a Friday to be discussed the following Friday. A SPaG or writing task to consolidate all of that week’s English Skills work is set on a Wednesday to be discussed the following Tuesday. Reading should be done a minimum of 3x per week in addition to this. Reading does not necessarily mean reading a fiction book; it could take the form of sports reports, newspaper articles or even recipes!

This Term… The key aim of our curriculum throughout Term 1 is to help our children to be: Successful learners who are creative, resourceful and able to identify and solve problems. The Term 1 whole schools skills focus: - to use imagination - to use experience - to generate ideas

How to Support your child in Maths… it’s easier than you think! Look out for WILF lists in the classroom! Show your child maths in real life all the time, especially shopping, measuring/weighing and time – this is free 1:1 Tuition on problem solving and needs no fancy maths knowledge! Recite the week’s ‘Learn Its’ at every opportunity – the sooner they are learnt, the more confident a child feels in every lesson. Top ability is almost always linked to knowledge of number bonds and times tables at the age appropriate level. Come along to the CLIC Parents Workshops – these will be fun and there will be no time when answers and volunteers are asked for! They will be once a term, in the Hall, am. ‘ Session 1 - What is CLIC?’ – Fri 27 th Sept
