4 Mission of the DD Act of 2000 “To assure that individuals with developmental disabilities and their families participate in the design of, and have access to needed community services, individualized supports, and other forms of assistance that promote self-determination, independence, productivity, and integration and inclusion in all facets of community life…” (Subtitle B – Section 121 – PL )

5 What is the State DD Network? UCEDD +DD Council+ P&A = DD Network DD Council UCEDDP&A DD Act

6 Themes The DD Act Programs all share 3 major themes: Advocacy Capacity Building Systemic Change

7 Advocacy: promoting individuals ability to advocate for themselves or support for a program, initiative, or change Capacity Building: pre-service and continuing education trainings to professionals, direct care workers, individuals and families, & strengthening communities to promote inclusion Systemic Change: modifying entire programs, policies, services, and/or funding streams

8 UCEDDs A discretionary grant program All UCEDDs are part of a national network There are 67 grants that establish UCEDDs in every US state and territory

9 In general, what is a UCEDD? Training Service Research Information Sharing …all related to people with developmental disabilities UCEDDs are leaders in four core function areas…

11 CDD Services and Iowa’s UCEDD CDD Provides Clinical Services  Assessment and Developmental Evaluations  Therapeutic Interventions UCEDD Works on  Transformation of Statewide Disability Service System  Individual and Consumer Advocacy  Information and Referral about Disability Services

12 Purpose of CPAC for UCEDD Advise the Director Provide guidance and feedback in the development of the 5 year plan Through out the year provide guidance and feedback on how the UCEDD is doing in meeting the outcomes identified in their 5 year plan.
