16 National Lambda Rail National Lambda Rail (NLR) is an initiative that will offer fiber services in support of advanced research and educational activities. NLR is spearheaded through a cooperative partnership between the –Corporation for Network Initiatives in California (CENIC); –Pacific Northwest Gigapop & University of Washington; –U.S. Supercomputing Centers; and –Other major U.S. research and education based networking organizations.
