2 From this… Linear lines of operations Uncertainty overcome by mass/reserve Concentrated combat power Large, supply-based logistics system Inventory-based information systems Analysis centers Centrally controlled transportation Sequential operations/logistics “Building and moving mountains” X XX XXXX XXXX XXXX X X X EAD DSA X BSA

3 To This… Situational awareness Extended battlespaces Distributed combat power – simultaneous employment Reduced stocks and footprint Transportation and information integrated into process and systems Leverage delivery systems at operational and tactical level Task organized force packages Node Airfield PTC-AIMS II RF/MTS Node E Port PTC-AIMS II Node SHIPS TSV “Process, information and delivery capability” PTC-AIMS II RF/MTS X XX EAB SPT I II SPT I II Node RF/MTS Node RF/MTS II MTS FTTS X RF/MTS

4 SBCT Deployment Exercise Early results are excellent Why –Robust C Capabilities –Command Emphasis –Deployment is a METL mission –Deployment characteristics considered in unit design –Embedded competencies (MWO) Rail/ Commercial Truck - NTC Air Ops – Ft. Sill, Alexandria, JRTC Ship Loading – Port of San Diego TSV – Beaumont/ Lake Charles Ship Discharge – Lake Charles 2

5 Thoughts Think as a G2: –Manned/unmanned sensors –Arrayed in an operational architecture –Integrated systems and materiel solutions Same Architecture, assets and processes used for deployment, employment, and sustainment Information transferred to capability: –To move and track Blue Force –To move/track CSS –To achieve operational agility and reduced vulnerability from stategic distances Standing Joint Task Force to execute deployment, employment, and sustainment in JOA’s/Theaters (Application of Science and Art) Deployment, employment, and sustainment (D-E-S) are beginning to merge. May need to create a D-E-S system with the ability to Support a variety of widely dispersed, non-contiguous, complex Joint Operations-simultaneously. Observation: Unified Quest ‘03
