St. Joseph University, bringing our membership to 53 Ohio institutions Broadening our scope to be inclusive of other issues impacting the success of college students Utilizing recent Needs Assessment and the OCI Steering Committee while planning for the future Continued opportunities for networking, idea sharing, and training

College Students & Marijuana 18% of college students reported using marijuana in the last 30 days They believe that over 75% of their peers have used in the same time frame Marijuana use is associated with: Discontinuous enrollment Lower academic performance Increased risk of car crashes Dependence in 1 in 11 regular users; 1 in 6 if use began in adolescence Results from the Spring 2014 ACHA-NCHA Executive Summary Arria, A. Responsible Ohio Collecting signatures to place marijuana legalization on the ballot for November 2015 Legalizes both medicinal and recreational marijuana use Permits those over 21 to have up to 4 flowering plants (and an unlimited number of non-flowering plants) as well as possess up to 8 ounces of marijuana Would create over 1,100 business permits for retail…there are less than 900 McDonalds in the entire state

MJ Use and Mania, Psychosis New research suggests MJ causes mania MJ use also worsens mania for people with bipolar disorder Other studies link MJ use to depression, anxiety, psychosis, schizophrenia High-THC content MJ increases psychosis 3x more likely to have psychotic disorder 5x more likely if daily user

Young Adult MJ Use & Mental Health 25% of college students being treated for mental illness also abuse cannabis This cohort suffered significant functional impairment, a greater likelihood of medical leave* Nearly half the students with bipolar disorder also had cannabis use disorder * As compared to peers who used MJ but did not have a mental illness
