 Reading- Your child will have reading once a week. This will generally be on the same day each week. We have literature circles so your child will be expected to prepare a task to present to their group. There are also separate reading skills lessons each week. This term we are looking at non fiction books.

 Writing – An extended piece of writing will be done most weeks. It tends to be linked to their topic. To assess their writing the children have a 3 week rotation of self assessment, peer assessment and teacher assessment.  Spelling is taught twice a week with reinforcement activities being done daily. A weekly test is given.  Handwriting- It is our expectation that all children use Berol Cursive Script.

 Numeracy is place value, whole numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisions, decimals, fractions, percentages and negative numbers.  Maths is time, money, shape, position and movement, information handling, measure, angle, chance and certainty.  Each week there will be 3 Numeracy,1 Maths and 1 Problem Solving lesson.

 We set for Numeracy between the 2 P6 classes and within those sets we differentiate the work depending on your child’s needs.  Maths and problem solving are taught in class and are also differentiated.

 Our main topic for this year are: Term 1- World War I Term 2- Space Term 3- Food and Farming Term 4- Novel Study

 P6L have 2 PE specialists and an art specialist  P6R have 2 PE specialists and a dance specialist  Can you please ensure all belongings are labelled. This includes jumpers, gym kits and gym rubbers.  Money for School Dinners should always be sent in a labelled envelope.  Any tuck shop money should come in a labelled purse/wallet.  Water bottles are to be filled with water only.

 All children are expected to wear a jacket to school in the winter months.  Earrings may be taped up or taken out for PE.  Gym kits are to be kept in school from Monday to Friday.  We actively encourage the school uniform and would appreciate your support in this.

 We actively promote positive behaviour and set high expectations of all children throughout the school.  This year we are reviewing our behaviour procedures.  The positive approach benefits all learners and we constantly encourage good manners, politeness and a good attitude.
