Biology Journal Ch 3

Name three types of microscopes. Compound light microscope Electron microscope Scanning tunneling microscope

What two qualities do good microscopes need? Magnification: making images larger. Resolution: making images focused.

What are the three parts of the cell theory? All living things are composed of cells. Cells are the basic unit of structure and function in living things. All cells come from previously existing cells.

What is the function of the nucleus? The mitochondria? Nucleus: controls the activities of the cell. Mitochondria: provides energy for the cell.

What is the function of the Cell Wall? The chloroplast? Cell wall: Support, protection Chloroplast: Makes food from sunlight.

What are the differences between a prokaryote and a eukaryote? Prokaryote= no nucleus, no major organelles Eukaryote= yes nucleus, yes organelles

What is a vesicle? A small, membrane-bound sac that transports substances in cells.
