Youth Subcultures nowadays

 Hippy subculture went through 3 phases. The first phase was in 60’s- 80’s. It had great influence on young people and was one of the most popular subcultures. The 2’nd phase was in 80’s – 90’s. There were few hippies because of the popularity of other subcultures (skinheads, punks, goths and etc.). But during the 3’rd phase (the middle of 90’s) hippies became more numerous. Neo-hippy has long hair, wears jeans, jeans’ jacket or loose overall, some rings in ear or nose, bracelets made of glass beads and a tiny leather bag on the neck. They listen to Rock music.

 Brighty coloured hair and wears metal chains.  Protest against conventional attittudes, they say no to everything.

 In English dictionary the word ‘punk’ means something worthless and useless.  The ideology of punks is quite simple: “Say “NO” to everything”. They are politically indifferent. They only want to express their individuality in a shocking way – brightly colored hair, metal chains. They always wear dirty clothes and never wash themselves. They use vulgar language. Usually punks are drugs consumers.

o The original Goths were an Eastern Germanic tribe who played an important role in the fall of the western Roman Empire. In some circles, the name "goth" later became pejorative: synonymous with “barbarian" and the uncultured due to the then- contemporary view of the fall of Rome and depictions of the pagan Gothic tribes during and after the process of Christianization of Europe.

 Goth fashion is stereotyped as a dark, sometimes morbid, eroticized fashion and style of dress. Typical gothic fashion includes dyed black hair, dark eyeliner, black fingernails, black period-styled clothing; goths may or may not have piercings. Styles are often borrowed from the Elizabethan, Victorian or medieval period and often express Catholic or other religious imagery such as crucifixes or ankhs.

 Metalheads — it is the subculture inspired by music in style metal, appeared in the 1970th years.  The metalworker in "admirer of heavy metal" value became current in the late eighties.  In English analog of Russian "metalworker" is metalhead — "metallogolovy", "mad about metal". Metalworkers also call the slangy words headbanger and mosher — "being pushed", according to behavior of fans at concerts.  Unlike some other subcultures, the subculture of metalworkers is deprived of pronounced ideology and concentrated only round music. Nevertheless, there are some features of outlook which it is possible to call typical for considerable part of metalworkers. Texts of metal bands spread independence, and self-confidence, a cult of "strong personality". For many metalworkers the subculture serves as remedy of an eskapizm, alienation for "gray reality", a form of a youth protest. Metalheads
