 Definition: an organization that consists of a number of parties or groups united in an alliance or league.  Give Russia the idea that Europe was against them  Italy wouldn’t live in fear anymore of powerful Germany  No Military

 Founded on the Ideas: “values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities.”

 In the EU they have a large body of government but the States have enough power to survive on their own.  Organization of 28 European nations  The idea came from the French Foreign minister: Robert Schuman

 Judges: 27: one from each of the membered nations. They serve 6 year terms.  Parliament: they do not vote as national groups, but they do political groupings.

 New people every six years. Fresh ideas.  One from each nation. Good representation of those nations.

 “The Union shall have Legal Personality.”  The Union will recognize freedoms.  Fundamental rights are guarunteed

 Major economy that produces imports and exports than any single country in the World
