TheScheduler 2.6 Functional presentation

TheScheduler Adressee: This plugin is designated for project administrators (or system administrators), who have to create specific and repetitive tasks in JIRA projects. This plugin allows: Authomatic creation of project specific issues (bugs, tasks, etc.). Issues created at defined time. Extended possibilities when defining time constraints: Daily with specified interval at specified hour At specified day of week with specified interval at specified hour At specified day of month at specified hour User is able to define Cron expression (for advanced users)

TheScheduler 2.6 plugin is designed to be compatible with 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2 Jira versions. Below is a table presenting compatibility grid for this plugin version. Installing plugin JAR file You can install this plugin in two ways. Using standard Jira functionality allowing upload and install plugin or copying TheScheduler plugin jar file into plugins directory manualy. To install plugin manualy please copy jar file into „installed-plugins” directory. For windows the full path may looks like: \plugins\installed-plugins Where is default Jira data directory. For Linux the only differecne is path parts delimiter. Change all occurences of „\” to „/”. TheScheduler - Installing

TheScheduler - Plugin functionality The Scheduler management section is available for every system and project administrator (from Administration section). If the user is logged in as a system administrator the plugin can be used for every available project in the system. If the user is logged in as a project administrator the plugin can be used for every project where user has administartor rights. TheScheduler - Projects List Project list displays all project available for a particular user. In most cases there will be different rows for different users. The most privilaged user is system administrator who has ability to view all projects across all Jira system. By clicking on „View Jobs” user is moved to the page listing all scheduled issues created for that project. Shows all projects available for current user.

TheScheduler - Issue Scheduler screen Issue Scheduler screen description Presents list of all scheduled issues created for single project. From this place you can create new scheduled issues, edit existing ones, enable or disable some of them and at the end delete scheduled issue. Each row in the list represents one scheduled issue. For each there are few actions visible on the right side of the table. For some of them there are related multi-rows actions under entire table. You can use these action when you want to delete multiple rows at one time instead of using delete operation for each one. You can sort list in choosen order by clicking on almost any column. There is a rule that for columns holding text such as summary sorting will be done alphabetically. Consequently for „Priority” column sort order was defined as most important priority first/last at the top of the list.

TheScheduler - Creating New Scheduled Issue Creating new scheduled issue was divided into three steps. After clicking on „Add New Job” link showed on previous screen user is presented with:

TheScheduler - Creating New Scheduled Issue Next screen allow user to provide information about issue which will be created by TheScheduler plugin at appropriate time.

TheScheduler - Creating New Scheduled Issue At the end user is obliged to choose at what time TheScheduler plugin have to create real issue basing on provided information. At this point there are two options that should be explained. First one „Due Date” field is extended version of standard Jira field allowing user to make choose between fixed and dynamic due date field. Fixed Due Date is independent of issue creation date (event date). Dynamic Due Date is inversely dependent of issue creation date and it means you can schedule job to create issue with due date pointing to date shifted by choosen offset from issue creation date. – for example: one week, and 3 days from issue creation date. „Do Not Duplicate” checkbox provides functionality of increasing priority of the issue instead of creating new one.

TheScheduler - Creating New Scheduled Issue After clicking „Create” button there should be entry visible on the issue scheduler screen along with some most important information about just created scheduled issue.

TheScheduler - Editing Scheduled Issue Editing appears mostly the same as creatting operation with that difference there are some fields already prepopulated with values provided during creation/last edit. You can change issue type in any time from creation. If you choose another issue type then new fields may be available on next screen or some of existing ones may be not shown. For example if you created new scheduled issue initially setting its type field to „Bug” and for this issue type you have defined field „Customer Info” then when you change issue type to another value it is possible that you won’t be able to view this field again. This is becouse you can have defined different field configurations for each issue type. You don’t need to provide values for fields that appears after changing issue type if you have provided them in the past. There is only need to populate field that doesn’t have value yet and are marked as required in its field configuration.

TheScheduler - Group Operations We all know how big can be production environment so we decide to put some convenient functions to do common task with our plugin. Starting from now you don’t have to delete each scheduled job, one by one. The are function which allow you remove all/selected scheduled issue just by pressing one button. Similarly there is function to enable/disable selected cheduled issues. Enable/Disable operation is dependent on the current state of scheduled issue. When it is in state „Enabled” then this operation will disable it.
