Symbiosis By: Nick Curry

What is Symbiosis? Symbiosis is close and often long-term interaction between different biological species.

What is Mutualism? Mutualism is any interaction between two creatures where both of the animals benefit.

What is Commensalism? Commensalism describes a relationship between two living organisms where one benefits and the other is not significantly harmed or helped.

What is Parasitism? A parasitic relationship is one in which one member of the association benefits while the other is harmed.

1. _____    Which of the following symbiotic relationships is considered parasitic? . ticks feeding on a dog . bees transporting pollen from flowers . pilotfish swimming under sharks . birds eating the insects from the back of a hippopotamus

2. _____  Ants and acacia trees have a mutualistic relationship because . they benefit each other. . they are part of the same ecosystem. . they are both adapted to a humid climate. . the ants eat part of the acacia tree.BBQ

3. _____  What type of symbiotic relationship is shown in this picture? A. mutualism B.  predation   C.  parasitism   D.  commensalism

4. _____  What does symbiosis mean? . living separately, no relationship between 2 species . living together, close relationship between 2 species
