Definition Classifiers are hand shapes that represents and/or describe shapes, size, things and location. It does not replace a sign. Classifiers ADD information.

What are classifiers? Replaces a noun after having stated the noun Clarifies a message More efficient

Why are classifiers helpful? Show movement, location, and appearance Show where and how something moves Show what it looks like Where it is located

How do you write classifiers in ASL gloss? CL: B CL:BB CL: C CL:CC CL: CLAW 5

Letter classifiers CL:A- Statue, placement of items on a table CL: B- time marker, 4 people together (standing, walking), walls, floors CL:BB – Any flat surface or to show how surfaces look, shelves, flat objects

Some more CL:C- cup, trash can, large pipe, shape of something CL:CC- A garbage can, a telephone pole CL:F- coins, buttons, eyes moving back and forth, pearl necklace, shape of cigar CL:G- eyebrows, mouth, mustache, collar, bird beak
