Think Pair Share  Turn to page 77  Partner on the left read the first 1 bullets  Partner on the right read the last 3 bullets  When you are finished, share what you have read and how you will apply that to identifying people who are present. Feel free to give examples of this

Classifiers  What is a classifier?  When do we use classifiers?  What notes do you have on classifiers?

Classifiers  BCL= Body Classifier  ICL= instrument classifier (we will discuss later)  Classifiers identify something but is not the sign for it  Take out the handshape paper you got in the beginning of the semester- we will use this to help learn classifiers

Describing Body Positions

How to Gloss CLs  You always need to identify what type of classifier you are discussing  Identify the CL first then identify what is being described  The specific action is in lower case, italics, and is in the quotes  BCL “ ”- the body enacts the verb of the sentence.

Describing Based on Activity  Look at the picture, I will identify a person in which you will see an action they are performing  Try to guess what the ASL sign is for that concept!  For some these may have a direct sign for the concept, others may need an ICL

Vocab Summary  Eating an apple  Chatting  Typing on the computer  Tying shoes  Looking at the time  Reading a book  Sleeping  Drinking soda/sipping soda  Eating candy/ licking lollipop  Drinking coffee  Listening to music

ICL’s  ICL “ ”- part of the body (usually the hands) manipulates an object.  This can be used in place of a sign for a more specific meaning

Page 378  Use the print out and the book to identify others.  Read the directions on the paper  We will do 1 or 2 together so you know what you should be doing with your partner.  Use page 379 sequence for the dialogue.

Putting it all together  Use page 77 or 379 in your text to review the sequence  Please write in gloss 3 skits (only 3-4 lines each)  One skit for each of the following:  Appearance  Body position  Action  *things to remember: gender first, include a name of who you are in identifying in your skit  *Also identify 1 piece of information about them

With your partner  Practice all 6 of your skits.  You and your partner will present 2 of the skits at random

DVD  We will watch the dvd and fill in the information
