American Sign Language Appoquinimink High School Rob Kogut B224

Video assignments  Required  Can not be avoided  Necessary for expressive skills  Since its ASL, it is a visual language, not written  Carry big weight in grade  It usually take 1-3 minutes to do (piece of cake!)  Late = point deducted, missed = no points  Every Friday (7-8 video assignments per marking period)  Will post video assignment on whiteboard on Monday, its your responsible to monitor and have plenty time to complete by Friday

How to do video assignment  Would need g-mail account  If not have account, create one  Record yourself  Upload on YouTube.com  Make sure it is unlisted, not private  Make sure to title your video assignment as: ‘Week 1 Video ASL (level) (last name)’  Submit to me at:   Make sure you submit before due date (end of your of block)

Tips on making video…  Wear appropriate clothing- not pajamas or shirtless (it happened)  Stand up or sit up- not lying on floor or in bed under the blanket  Lighting  Make sure the lights are front of you, not behind  Posture  Make sure your ‘frame’ cover your head to mid-section  Fluency  Make sure your signing is clear and smooth (signing fast does not help)

What do I look for…  5 parameters  Fluency  Your normal speed  Clear  Not choppy  Concept accurate  Using correct signs  Eye contact  Engaging and mood/attitude of signer  Posture  shifting

Any questions, concerns, issues, suggestions, comments…  Let me know, do not wait till last minute  You have plenty time to do the video assignments (5 days)  If technology issues, let me know immediately, not minute before its due  Video files are full on phone or computer is not acceptable excuse for not submitting video assignment  Grades will be posted on Home Access Center  This video assignment promotes your expressive skills and build confidence plus allows me to see your strengths and weakness  The video assignment will only be seen by me- not the world, that’s why you ‘unlisted’ the video, not ‘public’

Video assignment due on: Friday, September 11 th  Create a video of introducing yourself:  Name (first and last name)  Grade  Subjects taking this semester  Involved in sports/ activities/ or work  Hobby  Why take ASL class  Your goal for this class
