The Egyptian Center for Food Safety and Human Health ECFS and HH

ECFS & HH in conjunction with other national and international specialists is responsible for promoting and protecting the public's health by ensuring that the nation's food supply is safe, sanitary, wholesome, and honestly labeled.

Many people do not think about food safety until a food-related illness affects them or a family member. While the food supply in the United States is one of the safest in the world, CDC estimates that 76 million people get sick, more than 300,000 are hospitalized, and 5,000 Americans die each year from food borne illness. Preventing food borne illness and death remains a major public health challenge particularly in the developing countries. Maintaining the safety of food products is serious business. Not only can contamination make consumers seriously ill, but also can cost a company plenty in terms of dollars and negative publicity. What can employers do to help prevent contamination?. They can train their employees the right way to handle food products safely.

The Egyptian Center for Food Safety and Human health (ECFS & HH) is being established to: Study the risks and realities of food contamination, and shares its insights on how employees should be trained... and why. Offer resources where industry can work collaboratively on projects with Food Hygiene Department's scientists on food safety and technology research. Provide information about food borne illness prevention to educators, trainers, and organizations developing education and training materials for food workers and consumers.

Food safety training is a commitment, a mindset and a smart business practice for every restaurant and foodservice operation in our industry. Food safety training doesn't end, however, once a manager earns certification. That's where it begins - by implementing food safety practices on a daily basis. It is also critical that every person in an operation meets today's food safety practice demands. The Center of Food Safety (CFS) provides programs to help keep food safe as an essential ingredient in every meal. The training is the one commitment to food safety implementation that what we should all share every day.

ECFS and HH Tools for Ensuring Food Safety inspection of establishments collection and analysis of samples notification programs laboratory research –develop/improve methods for detecting pathogens and chemical contaminants in food –with the cooperation of other department in different department determine health effects of food contaminants –determine effects of processing on food composition –investigate factors that contribute to virulence of biological contaminants pilot plant for meat processing and packaging studies cooperative activities/technical assistance collection and analysis of information stakeholder awareness through education and public meetings
