Crossing Boarders – Bridging The Gap Industrial Fire Departments, no matter what the industry…… Have common problems Share common goals and together we can…… Share our experiences Come up with solutions Set Industry Standards Industrial Fire Service Networking

New Generation Aircraft: Realistic Training For Airport Fire Fighters The Challenges The Needs A “Simple Recipe For Effective Training” Overview – Realistic Training

Challenges Facing the Fire & Rescue Service Preparing our emergency services personnel to deal with emergencies involving New Large Aircraft and other “High-Tech Mass Transit Systems” Rapid Pace of Transportation Globalization Advancement in Mass Transit Technology Increasing Numbers of Passenger Travel Large Numbers of Passengers within a single transport vehicle Rising Accident Potential Developing “Airport Cities”

The Needs – “Be Prepared for the Worst Case” – Establishing Emergency Response Plans –Effective, Deployable, & Easy to Follow –Address the needs of today's technology – Adequate Equipage –High-Reach Elevated Waterways –High-Reach Rescue Vehicles –Adequate Agent Delivery Equipment – Intensive Training –Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Tactics

A Simple Recipe For Training Success Training is like baking a cake……….. “ If you want your cake to taste good, you need to have the proper mixture of ingredients” ++

A Simple Recipe For Training Success And like baking a cake ……….. “you need the proper ingredients for an effective training event” Training Plan ++

Training Development Process Analysis – what are the needs? Design – create a blueprint Development – develop training and materials Implementation – deliver the training Evaluation – did you achieve your objectives A Simple Recipe For Training Success

Identifying Needs Define purpose of training and target audience Determine participant’s needs Define instructional objectives A Simple Recipe For Training Success

Design & Develop – Draw a Blueprint What’s the best delivery method? What’s the best way to achieve the objectives? What media would be best? What equipment is needed? What type of exercises could be developed? How much time will be needed? How much money and resources will be required?

A Simple Recipe For Training Success Implement the training event Keep focus on your training training objective Challenge the trainee’s with REALISTIC training scenarios If you don’t need to simulate…then don’t simulate Train according to your operational procedures AND ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT THE SAFETY OF YOUR TRAINEE’S IS YOUR NUMBER 1 PRIORITY

A Simple Recipe For Training Success Evaluation based on objectives Did the participants: Learn what you had planned? Use/implement what they learned? Improve their job performance Improve their service to the public? Did the instructors: Present all learning objectives? Did they keep the trainee‘s safe?... At the end of the day,can they say….. „There goes another group of well trained fire service professionals“

Training Is A Matter Of Attitude It’s easy to calculate the cost of training………… but it’s impossible to calculate the loss of life because of lack of training! Train as your life depends on it… because it does!

Thank you for your attention
