The worlds largest technical society dedicated to the global aerospace profession The Mission: to address the professional needs and interests of the past, current, and future aerospace workforce and to advance the state of aerospace science, engineering, technology, operations, and policy to benefit our global society The Institute is the principal voice, information resource, and publisher for aerospace engineers, scientists, managers, policymakers, students, and educators Who We Are Almost Every Major Advancement in the Aerospace Sciences and Engineering Has Been Made by an AIAA Member 2

Established in 1963 by merging two great aerospace societies The American Rocket Society (founded in 1930 as the American Interplanetary Society) –Science fiction writers and editors; performed own experiments The Institute of the Aerospace Sciences (founded in 1933 as the Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences) –Scholars and professionals; amazing library/collection Today, the AIAA is: Over 30,000 professional members in 85 countries; over 7,000 student members in over 150 student branches worldwide –20 technical conferences, 8000 papers per year –7 technical journals, hundreds of books, and an electronic library of all papers and journal articles since 1963 (some back to 1930) –Short courses, standards, public policy –The AIAA Foundation Our Past and TODAY 3
