What is a Program Committee A Program Committee serves to focus Institute activities in an area of significant national interest which spans the scope of many Technical Committees. The Technical Activities Committee of the AIAA has chartered Program Committees in following areas: – Air Traffic Management – Hypersonic Technology and Aero-Space Planes – Reusable Launch Vehicles – Space Station – Unmanned Air Vehicles

Reflects Importance – An area of significant national priority (activity and investment) Provides Visibility – Exposure across the Institute at a much higher level than that afforded as a TC Working Group Finite Duration – Limited in life to the period of intense program interest and activity Gives Focus – Emphasizes TC technology application to the particular program area – Avoids the distraction (diffusion of effort) required to satisfy the broad charter typical of most TCs Breadth – Reaches across the Institute through liaison to each of the relevant technical committees with an efficiency and clarity of purpose not easily achieved by any single TC Why Have Program Committees

Unique Membership – Common program interest but having diverse expertise – Intentionally targeted, with technical expertise selected to facilitate interaction with specific TCs and integration across the TCs Applied Aerodynamics, Atmospheric Environment, Thermophysics, GNC, Liquid Propulsion, Systems Engineering, Economics, Flight Test, Ground Test, Space Operations, Space Transportation…… – As many as needed to achieve required coordination Not limited as is the case for TCs – Restricted as necessary to achieve the objectives of the PC – Engages those that otherwise might not serve on a Technical Committee Focused on application over development of technology Vital Agility – Responds quickly as the nature of the program changes Add/remove members, evolve focus and level of collaboration with TCs.
