Have not found a suitable replacement. –Updated current, future and related Conferences pages

SYSTEM SAFETY SOCIETY Professionals Dedicated to the Safety of Systems, Products & Services Organized 1962 Incorporated 1973   August Publicity and Media I.New accomplishments since , Web site: –Substantial Web site overhaul, including updated content, revision for grammar/style/readability/ usability, plus resolution of site “identity crisis” –Enhanced security and convenience, and removed some annoying features: Improved the “Web safety” margin: encoded addresses, removed mail-to’s (except where requested) Stopped “surprise downloads”; made it clear which is which Made text more inviting Solved mystery as to why database and scripting functions weren’t working –Will implement “fix” after Conference

SYSTEM SAFETY SOCIETY Professionals Dedicated to the Safety of Systems, Products & Services Organized 1962 Incorporated 1973   August Publicity and Media II.Plans, Publicity: Public Relations — Has always been the forgotten item on the duty list: Create coordinated PR campaign, including established media contacts with related publications (e.g., Professional Safety, Safety-Critical Systems Club newsletter) Ad swaps — not just for Conference Create ads for the Society itself Article swaps, including corporate publications Send out general press releases at least quarterly Consider direct mail campaign, perhaps with free issues of JSS

SYSTEM SAFETY SOCIETY Professionals Dedicated to the Safety of Systems, Products & Services Organized 1962 Incorporated 1973   August Publicity and Media II.Plans, Marketing (it’s a part of Publicity): Create consistent “look and feel” for the Society, and a Corporate Identity standard for logos, formats, terminology Create style guide for entire Society, available on Web For example, the above logo does not conform Make graphics and logo files easily locatable on Web, and understandable Include templates for letterhead, meeting minutes, press releases, presentations Make it mandatory Develop a coordinated marketing plan (always on duty list, but never done) Attract new members and Corporate Members

(Membership vehicle? Scientific journal? News vehicle?) Should JSS be in the business of influencing elections? Is it still the best and most timely means of communication for things like that? –Is eJSS a good investment? –How much information should be available on the Web? Copyright issues Privacy, consent and legal issues –Controlling the organization of the Web site
