Where Do Donors Come From? Kurt Cumiskey Assistant Director, Duke University Libraries Development ALADN 2013 Pittsburgh, PA May 20, 2013

Donors,

Cash,

Annual Fund Cash,

Tried and true  Select Board members wisely  Strengthen relationship with generalists (e.g., major gifts officers, planned philanthropy staff) in University Development  Remind library colleagues that they are ALL fund raisers

Where do donors come from?

How did we build our pipeline during the recession with limited budget when we were unable to solicit alumni unless they had given to the Libraries before?

Recent Duke Libraries Development Initiatives that have increased donors and dollars  advertise in the Duke Alumni Association magazine and expand the number of Libraries’ Magazines we send  create and share entertaining and informative videos about the Libraries  exploit occasions when alumni return to campus o tours and other informative programs o thank you reception for library donors on Reunion Weekend

Recent Duke Libraries Development Initiatives that have increased donors and dollars  establish Deceased Alumni Bookplate Initiative and Alumni Portal  host fun events in the Libraries that showcase our intellectual contributions to the University  treat student workers as colleagues when they’re students and as our constituency after they’ve graduated  create student advisory groups and a Young Alumni Advisory Committee
