Trustee Role Description Background: The Food Chain provides nutrition services including, essential groceries, communal meals and nutrition advice to men, women and children who are chronically sick as a result of HIV related illness. Good nutrition plays a vital and fundamental role in the fight against HIV and through the provision of these services we aim to ensure that no one living with HIV has their ability to get well and stay well adversely affected by lack of access to appropriate food. The Food Chain employs a small staff and all our services are provided with the help and support of a large volunteer base. The Food Chain has been operating since 1988 and in December 2011 delivered its half-a-millionth meal. The charity is funded through donations from grants, trusts, fundraising events and private donations. We have ambitious plans for the future, as we try to reach all those who require our support. To help us achieve this and to help The Food Chain eventually become less reliant on external funding, we recently moved to a new premise with its own kitchen, which will enable us to scale up our services and to generate new income from a variety of proposed activities. Role Description:The Board of Trustees is responsible for governing The Food Chain and providing strategic leadership to plan its future direction and services. We are currently looking to recruit trustees to fill posts becoming vacant in October Trustees are elected by the company membership at the AGM. Our Strategy for “Working Together” was published last year and the charity is progressing well. We are looking for Trustees who will help us achieve our ambitions. We need candidates with demonstrable understanding, expertise and/or experience of the governance of a charitable organisation. In particular, this year we would welcome candidates with any of the following experience/skills: Knowledge of HIV and HIV-related illness Experience of dietetic and nutrition food services Experience of PR, marketing, networking and campaigning Knowledge of HR and employment law and practice How much time do I need give: The role is London based and commitment is expected to be as follows: Attendance at each bimonthly Board meeting (6 evenings per year) Attendance at the annual strategic planning meeting (one full Saturday per year) Attendance at the annual Induction of new Trustees Additional work averaging around 2-4 hours per month, on a flexible basis, to carry out related duties The term of office for each Trustee is 3 years (with the option to stand for an additional 3 years) Trustees receive no remuneration for their services. The role is voluntary and the charity may reimburse out of pocket expenses incurred in the course of carrying out the role in accordance with the Charity Commission regulations. A full copy of our strategic aims can be viewed on our website. How to Apply: Please a copy of your CV and a personal statement outlining how you meet the areas of skills and experience along with your interest in the role to Deadline for applications: WEDNESDAY 9 TH SEPTEMBER 2015 The Trustees will be hosting a Trustee information session on 3rd September at 6:30pm where you can come along to find out more about The Food Chain and the role of Trustee
