Wellesley Youth Lacrosse Program Goals and Philosophy have fun!!! teach sportsmanship and life lessons through youth lacrosse teach proper, fundamental lacrosse techniques following US Lacrosse guidelines equal playing time for all players at all levels all players play all positions (goalie is voluntary)

Boys Program - Overview In-town – Grades 1 and 2 (Learn to Play Program) Town Pride Lacrosse League – Grades Grades 3 and 4 (Small Ball Program) Grades 5-8 (Full Field Lacrosse Program)
Boys Program - Equipment lacrosse helmet lacrosse shoulder pads lacrosse elbow pads lacrosse gloves cup water bottle (name on it if possible) mouth guard (must attach to helmet) lacrosse stick (a standard lacrosse stick, like those used at all levels) – nothing fancy is necessary – they usually cost about $35 - $50 new – NOT a mini stick – we do NOT suggest cutting them short
Boys Program - Uniforms uniforms (a newly designed WYL pinney and shorts) are included in registration and will be issued to each player each player is issued a single reversible WYL pinnie which is to be worn to both practices and games Grades 1 and 2 program will be issued pinnies only
Grades 1 and 2 Learn to Play Program
new pilot program last season 8-week program to teach basic lacrosse techniques and FUNdamentals – scoop, catch, throw, and shoot – basic game play, position play, and general lacrosse movement – goal of each practice is to maximize “touches” for each player
Grades 1 and 2 Learn to Play Program Saturdays starting April 11 th one practice per week from 4:00 – 5:15 PM at Hunnewell fields scrimmage opportunities towards end of season registration remains open even after season starts

Grades Town Pride Lacrosse League (TPL)
very competitive league shared philosophy among member towns of teaching lacrosse fundamentals play against towns with well-established lacrosse programs

Grades Town Pride Lacrosse League (TPL) practices begin the week of March 23th (weather permitting) practice days/times will be posted on our website soon first games are the weekend of April 4 th -5 th
Grades 3 and 4 TPL Small Ball Program balanced teams of players per team all teams practice together as a group 2 nights per week games are played on Sundays end of season Jamboree involving all teams from all towns in one location!
Grades 3 and 4 TPL Small Ball Program games are played during set time blocks on the schedule specific schedule for each team is set by age group coordinators week to week often multiple towns play together on a given weekend
Grades 3 and 4 TPL Small Ball Program games are played on a field half the length of a standard lacrosse field (for example: three small ball fields fit on one turf at Sprague) play is 7 v. 7 (as opposed to 10 v. 10 in standard lacrosse play) all players take turns playing all positions (goalie, defense, midfield, and attack)
Grades 3 and 4 TPL Small Ball Program teams play 2-3 mini-games, running time, with a central timer minimal contact / no checking high school varsity players serve as referees for home games

Grades TPL Full Field Lacrosse Program stratified teams of per team all teams practice together as a group 2 nights per week games are Saturdays (6 th,7 th,8 th grade) or Sundays (5 th grade) end of season Jamboree for each grade hosted by one of the TPL programs
Grades TPL Full Field Lacrosse Program games are played on a full, standard lacrosse field play is 10 v. 10 all players continue to play all positions (defense, midfield, and attack) paid coaches at the 7 th and 8 th grade levels
