The major flaws in multiyear preparation of basketball players that will be avoided in Justitia Basket programme Review of the situation others Backetball clubs in Lithuania

Acceleration in technical preparation !!! FLAW NO. 1

Results of player testing at Lithuanian basketball clubs/schools

Results of 1 min. shooting test (Testing 2006) TECHICAL PREPARATION

Results of 30 free throw tests (Testing 2006) TECHICAL PREPARATION

EVALUATION OF TECHNICAL TRAINING RESULTS

Evaluation of the results of 30 free throw tests (Testing 2006)

Evaluation of the results of 1 min. shooting test (Testing 2006)

Reasons

Physical load Player age (years) Physical load parameters Days of practice Hours of practice Time allocated for physical fitness (hours) Special preparation (hours) Technical and tactical training (hours) Theoretical preparation (hours) Number of games Testing (time) Recreation days Distribution of hours of basketball practice and games during multiyear training (Milanovic, 2003)

Philosophy of training (T.O. Bompa 2000) Early specialization Versatile, basic, general physical training Quick progressSlow progress Best shape of the life reached in 15 – 16 years of age Best sportive shape reached at 18 y. old and later in physiological and psychological maturity No consistent increase in quantity of games Consistent increase in game quantity Liability to injuries, due to accelerated adaptation Sportive longevity

Basic physical and specialized technical preparation (Bompa, 2000)

Too little time allocated for development of physical ability FLAW NO. 2

Results of speed force physical ability test (high jump test) PHYSICAL FITNESS

Results of the speed physical ability (20 m sprint test)

Evaluation of physical fitness results

Results of speed physical ability test (20 m sprint test) Quantitative evaluationQualitative evaluation

Evaluation of the high jump test results

Reasons

The relationship between team final standings and individual technical skills of youth basketball players E. Brandão*, M.A. Janeira & P. Neta Faculty of Sports Science and Physical Education, University of Porto, Portugal Subjects: 246 Basketball players, aged Conclusion: S trong relationship between offensive technical indicators (Pass, Dribbling and Shooting) and team final standings Aim: to identify the degree of relationship between team final standings and individual performance skills Important studies on multiyear basketball player preparation

xfghxdhxdfthfh Age of players : …. Factors determining wins of teams in different age groups More technical preparedness More physical fitness + technical preparedness

xfghxdhxdfthfh Physical abilities Agility Coordination Speed Force Power Endurance Flexibility Sensitive periods of physical ability development Age

Results of the 30 free throw test Evaluation of high jump test results Due to accelerated technical training, physical fitness is being developed poorly !!! Qualitative evaluation

Overloading in adolescence FLAW NO. 3 a)“Straining” is caused by application of too big physical load to players… b) Too little “drill variety”, “fun”, “spontaneity” – too much “trim” during the practices… c) Stress “kills” fast fiber – coaches should avoid it… Practicing is not “dressage”

FLAW NO. 4 Too little attention paid to the training process correction - Testing - Modelling - Load individualization - Load optimization Most important factors in the training process:
