About me Born Deaf- have 2 Deaf sisters and 1 hearing sister and parents Mainstreamed- was only Deaf student in public school Did not have interpreter ‘full time’ Have Deaf wife and 4 hearing children Moved here from Florida in 2013 Moved to Florida from Pennsylvania in 2002

And… Taught American Sign Language since 1990 in K-12 grade level, community, and college for hearing students plus Deaf students Used to own landscaping business Truck driver (best job- why? Long lunch break) Held ‘million’ jobs… Will tell you ‘stories’
Rules in classroom Respect each other No voices- leave your voice at the door Please only one signer at time- it’s distracting when more than two ‘talk’/ sign at same time Please have your electronic devices turned off including: * Pagers* Boom box* Tablets * Phones* TV’s* Walkman * Laptops* Mircowave* Hair curlers/ flat iron (it happened !)
No bathroom/ water for 1 st and last 15 minutes of class (per se to Admin) Try grab before you arrive to class- you have 5 minutes to do it Remain seated till end of class bell- no standing by the door (per se to Admin) No leaving class early, no loitering, no opening door to ‘chat’ Absolutely no FOOD permitted in class (per se to Admin) Eat before you enter class No horseplaying, juggling, dancing, running, rolling on floor (it happened) You are old enough to know this…
Not following will result in: Written up and contact parents Affect your grades Missed out important lesson/ instruction Harm your and others’ abilities in learning ASL Bottom line: Be responsible and do your best in class and respect EVERYONE
