Welcome to Ms. Izquierdo and Ms. Littman’s Classes Open House School Year

I strongly recommend that you have a laptop or desktop computer at your house that can access the internet on a daily basis. Your smart phone does NOT count as a computer.

Attendance Be on time We start right at 8:35 am Remember when they leave early they are either missing MATH or READING

Parent Portal The parent portal contains information regarding the MDCPS and your child. Most importantly this is where you find the gradebook! Access to the parent portal requires you to set up an account. You need the PIV number which you can obtain by going to the main office with a photo ID and requesting it. You also need your child’s student ID number which can be found on their report card.

Gradebook Click on the grades to see the assignment information To see any missing assignments click on the arrow to “missing assignments” and then click get report

Grades/Gradebook Grades are entered into the gradebook about once a week. Grades are shared with the students once the papers are graded.

Grades/ Gradebook con’t Please check your child’s grades through the parent portal. If you child is absent it is THEIR responsibility to get the make up work. Missing assignments can be seen on the gradebook in the parent portal. We will not be reminding students of their missing work. Missing assignments appear as a Z in the gradebook and count as a F.

Grading Scale The grading scale is set by MDCPS and can be found in the parent handbook. It is as follows: A=100%-90% B=89%-80% C=79%-70% D=69%-60% F=59% and below.99 and below

HONOR ROLL Honor Roll criteria is set by MDCPS. Principal’s Honor Roll is All A’s, 1’s and A’s in conduct Silver Honor Roll is an overall average of with all A’s and B’s and 1’s and 2’s with conduct 3.0 or higher. Bronze Honor Roll is an overall with all A’s and B’s and 1’s and 2’s with conduct

Schedules Your child has a copy of their schedule in their home learning folder

Home Learning 30 minutes reading every day, (3 nights a week must be Reading Plus)! Practice multiplication facts EVERY night for at least 10 minutes Mon. Tue. Ms. Izquierdo will give the Home Learning. Wed. Thurs. & Fri. Ms. Littman will give the Home Learning. Please check over your child’s Home Learning as it reflects what is being taught in class.

FCAT and Mandatory Retentions FCAT given in April 2013 There are 3 ways to pass during the year: FCAT SSS Reading level 2 or higher Portfolio Passages done in class Additional assessment done in May for those who score level 1 on FCAT reading Possibly: Summer school will be offered for those who do not pass ANY of the above Students must attend all of summer school (usually 4 weeks, half day) A test will be given at the end of summer school to be promoted to 4 th grade before school starts in the fall

Weekly FCAT Practice Every Wednesday is FCAT practice day. These practices will be counted towards their reading grade 32 weeks of practice before FCAT

FCAT Reading Task Cards These are in your child’s home learning folder.

Required 3 times a week (replaces the 30 minute reading) Increase reading fluency and comprehension Must be done on the computer Directions are on the JDG website under Izquierdo/ Littman website

First run a requirement check on your computer and update any programs necessary. Be sure to turn off the pop up blocker.

Contact Information is the best way to reach us. Send a note with your child We will write back that same day provided your child remembers to give us the note. School Phone: This is probably the least effective way to reach us. The school office staff will place a note in our box and we will return your call within 48 hours.
