MAIN THEMES 1.That all progressives shared an optimistic vision that an active government could solve socioeconomic problems and create a better, more ordered and efficient world. 2.That progressives wanted to reduce the influence of party machines on politics. 3.How the temperance, immigration restriction, and woman suffrage movements took on crusade-like aspects. 4.How progressivism was a reaction to the rapid industrialization and urbanization of the United States in the late nineteenth century. 5.The importance of political leadership for the progressive movement. 6. That American foreign policy became much more interventionist, especially in the Caribbean.
