Lecture # 10 Product Development Cycle

What is Product Development?  Product development means to design something new.  To transform your ideas into reality.

Product development Cycle  Theme  Mood board  Story board  Color board  Technical drawing  Final product

Theme  The basic idea of your design is called the theme.  E.g. A garden full of flowers  E.g. A thick forest  E.g. a crowded city

Mood Board  After the theme has been finalized, you start working on the product according to your mood.  The designer makes a Mood Board.  Mood Board consists of some pictures or drawings according to the mood of designer  E.g. Designer may be in happy or sad mood

Mood Board…  The colors in mood board will show the mood of the designer

Story Board  Now the designer develop a story for his product and construct a story board which shows his thoughts  E.g. I am sitting in the garden and reading newspaper. Children are also playing there.  E.g. Four friends on a journey

Color Board  When your story board is ready, you have to choose what colors will be suitable for your product.  Story board and mood board will help you out to decide colors

Color Wheel…  Use a color wheel to help plan the overall scheme of your product  Look at the color wheel and you will see the left hand side of the colors are 'warm' or 'hot' and the ones on the right are 'cool' or 'cold'.

Technical Drawing  After deciding the colors of the product, next step is to draw the shape of the garment.  Technical drawing is such a representation of a garment which shows the silhouette, stitching and different fabric parts of a garment
