Presentation transcript:

Lewis and Clark was the starting point on it’s way to the Manifest Destiny, the Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of the United States and created a space to populate in order to increase the population in the United States.

The Alamo was part of the Texas war for independence from Mexico. After a few years of being there own free republic, they joined the United States adding more area and population.

The Mexican War was a war to control more land because of the belief in Manifest Destiny… disputes over the border lines sparked military confrontation, helped by the fact that President Polk eagerly sought a war in order to seize large tracts of land from Mexico.

 The carpenter James Marshall discovered gold at John Sutter’s lumber mill on the American River at Coloma. As news spread of the discovery, the ensuing gold rush led to an influx of hundreds of thousands of immigrants from every corner of the world. This then lead to the California Territory becoming part of the united states in 1850.

 Between 1841 and 1869 ranchers, farmers, and families moved west along the Oregon Trail in hopes of finding a new start and an area to farm and start over with better opportunities. This new population in the west then began the expansion.

 As the number of settlers grew, there was a push to displace the Native people who lived there. In 1830 the Congress of the United States passed the "Indian Removal Act.“The result of this act was the Trail of Tears where Native Americans walked from Georgia to Oklahoma under very harsh conditions. Over 4,000 lives were lost.
