INTRODUCTION Aids to trade are those activities that make trade possible. That is, without them, trade is impotent or not complete. The aids to trade among others are, transportation, insurance, banking, e-commerce and of course tourism. World Tourist Organization says tourism is currently the largest industry in the world providing a high annual revenues and providing millions of jobs. Tourism belongs to the hospitality industry. Tourism in Nigeria is regulated by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation.

MEANING OF TOURISM Tourism is a collection of activities, services and industries which is out to deliver a travel experience. These experiences include transportation, accommodation, eating, drinking, entertainment, business etc, usually of a limited period. It can also be defined as business activities that provide accommodation, entertainment, services, pleasure for people or an individual who visit a place. WHO IS A TOURIST? A tourist is someone who travels for leisure or pleasure, adventure etc and stays in a hotel or a place for some period of time.

TYPES OF TOURISM Domestic Tourism: This is when a resident of a country travels within his/her country. Eg a resident of ogun state who travels to cross river on tour. Inbound Tourism: Here, a non-resident of a country travels to a particular country and goes to other parts of that country. Eg a resident of Uk arrives Lagos Nigeria and travels to Abeokuta, to see Olumo rock. The movement from Lagos to Abeokuta becomes inbound tourism.

TYPES OF TOURISM (cont) Outbound Tourism: This happens when someone travels to another country on tour. Eg a Nigeria visiting the United States.

ASSIGNMENTS Write short note on this: Is tourism effective in Nigeria? Give reasons for Yes or No. Describe five tourist centers in Nigeria . Who is the Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation? Note that all assignments will be used for your tutorial test, assignments and projects.
